Serendipity In The City
Sunday, September 27, 2009 at 05:44PM Here’s what I love about Philly. I was wracking my brain trying to think of something we could do today for just an hour or two. It always seems like everything around here is so expensive or parking alone will kill ya. I didn’t want to shell out the fees it cost to go to any of the museums or institutes. Shopping is no fun when you are on a tight budget. So, I hemmed and hawed about what to do or where to go, since it was raining off and on, even the park was sort of out of the question. Likewise, taking the bus into town for a cheap book at Borders was iffy. Getting caught in the rain with a four year old is no fun either.
Still, I was dying to get out of the house and do something, anything… So, I decided to drag Piper to the bank with me. Kill a to-do off my list and also get us out for some fresh air.
But typical Philadelphia, right across the street from the bank, we stumbled upon a block party. Music, entertainment, a free moon bounce, pretzels, popcorn and tons upon tons of stuff on sale for only one dollar. ONE DOLLAR! It was Philadelphia Aids Thrift store’s birthday bash.
We wondered around, mingled, ate, danced, browsed and came home with two books for me and two movies for Piper. All in all, we spent less than 12 bucks. Now c’mon, you just gotta love that.
My only regret? No camera. We were going to the bank, after all! Who’d have thought a boring trip to the bank would turn out to be such a great Sunday morning! Serendipity at its finest.
I love this town.

very cool;)
I love the idea of doing something boring and then walking right into a party.
I regret no camera too--it would have been fun to see pictures but hearing about it was nice.
