May Day! May Day!

Oh no, I almost forgot May Day!

It was May Day today in some parts of the world. 

I experienced my first real May Day in France and I will never forget it.  It seemed like there were festivals everywhere and the bakeries were overflowing with celebration cakes.  Thanks to my aunt, who knew so many people in Paris, we had our share of invites to gatherings.  And I will never forget the site of those little girls giggling their hearts out as they twirled around that May Day pole.  The beautiful ribbons they held like cherished strings of pearls creating a dancing feast for the eyes.

I never could have imagined then that I would one day have a sweet little girl of my own.  I wish we celebrated May Day here in the states. I would love to see Piper join in on that innocent and pure fun. I can almost see her, what she would be like a few years from now. Wearing a lacy dress and laurel wreath, diving gleefully into a piece of cake hoping she found the prize.

Perhaps one of these days we will take a trip to France in May. Hopefully before she is too old and forced to watch it from the sidelines like I did.

For now, Happy (somewhat belated) May Day to all you who do celebrate. I hope you find the prize.

I loved the May Day celebrations when we lived in Germany too. Why *don't* we celebrate it here? We should!

Sounds wonderful! I wish we did that here. My girls would love it. Who am my kidding, I want to twirl around a pole in my pearls! And I don't mean a stripper pole.

may day was a cool excuse in elementary school to get out of class for an extra hour and give out construction paper flowers. Ahhh memories

Em was born on May Day. Until I read your post I hadn't realized it was a celebrated holiday. Perhaps next year we should plan a fun party. I'm sure a clothesline pole would make a decent may pole...

I missed May Day too - darned internets - it is the day I usually write "Hooray, hooray, it's the first of May! Outdoor (bow chicka) starts today!!"
