The Kid Bonding (With Complete Strangers)
Monday, April 2, 2007 at 02:58PM I was chatting to a friend on my cell phone while waiting in the line the other day. (I know, I normally am not that kind of a person. In all honestly, I rarely talk to people on the phone at home, yet alone when out in public). Anyway, after the initial reason for the call, my friend asked the routine questions, including how my daughter was doing:
- We’re all good. Piper is fine. Well, actually, {little chuckle} we had a mini trauma last night.
- Dear Lord, what happened now?
- She pooped in the tub.
- What? What did you say?
- She pooped in the tub.
- What? I can’t hear you?
- SHE. POOPED. IN. THE. TUB.
As I listened to my friend laughing her ass off, I looked around and saw a mix of blank stares, averting eyes, concealed smirks. I offered an apologetic shrug to those brave enough to look me in the eye. After hanging up, I started examining the ceiling’s architecture in earnest concentration, when I felt a soft tap on my shoulder. It was a woman around my age (I am guessing). She gave me a warm smile and proceeded to tell me all about the first time her child took a crap in the bathtub. Soon enough, little by little the rest of the stories came trickling in from the others around me…
- My son almost fainted…
- My kid wouldn’t take a bath for a week…
- My granddaughter was so proud of herself…
- I was traumatized more than he was…
- My son started playing with it…
Funny, heartwarming, shocking… everyone had a “bathturd” story to tell and couldn’t wait to tell it.
Although I still firmly believe that there is nothing that bonds complete strangers instantly like a jamming rock concert, I have to admit that having kids comes mighty close.

just a wee little bit.
i had my daughter out w/ me at the grocery store. and OF COURSE she chose that time to poop in her diaper. So, she's walking around the store, grabbing herself, saying "Erica poop, erica poop." Other the mothers/grandmothers just looked and gave understanding smiles
Yep. All parents understand!
Whew!
