Catch Up Mode

Lordy, I feel like I have been away for ages. My blog notifier says I have 216 updates to read. Yikes! In an effort to keep it brief, I will just summarize the latest news. I hope to catch up with all of you over the weekend!

***********************

This week I broke down and took my 16 year old cat to the vet since he has not been looking too good these days.

Their diagnosis $128 later? “He’s old.”

Gee, thanks a lot.

Of course for another couple hundred thousand dollars, I can get a slew of x-rays and tests to find out exactly what is going on. But, in the end, it all boils down to he’s getting old. So I said a polite “no thank you” to traumatizing him with more vet visits and tests. Instead, I’ll just spend as much cuddle time with him as possible every day. My poor baby.

*************************

According to my handy dandy quit counter, my non-smoking stats are:

Free and Healing for Six Days, 14 Hours and 47 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 1 Day and 3 Hours, by avoiding the use of 165 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me $41.37.

(I have to admit, this is not completely accurate, though. I have cheated with both real and herbal cigarettes. But, on the whole, I think it is going very well. I am over some MAJOR humps, like having that first cig in the morning and smoking in the car, etc.)

**************************

I have been on-call all week, thus working on the computer just about every night at 2:30 in the morning.  Fun, fun, fun. I now think cell phones are the evil instruments of the devil.  On the nights work hasn’t woken me up out of a dead sleep, Piper was kind enough to do so.  Thankfully, she finally has turned a corner and is on the mend.  In the past two weeks we have been through bronchitis, ear infection, stomach bug, fevers, you name it.  My poor baby.

Piper and I are going to have our very own play date this weekend!!!!!!!!!!

I am really looking forward to this, you can’t imagine. I know some of you might be thinking, “big whoop”.  But, for me this is a major event.  I feel guilty sometimes about the fact that I don’t have much opportunity to spend quality mommy-daughter time with her. When I hear about other moms who spend afternoons at the park or Gymboree, the guilt really starts to set in. Guilt, but there is also a ton of regret. She is almost two and we haven’t done anything like this yet (now can see why it is a big whoop?). Our weekends are always full of running errands, visiting, getting things done or just chilling out of exhaustion. So I see this as a special time for just the two of us. I can’t wait! I plan on taking a ton of pictures so I will post the proof of my momish ways. I am definitely going to capture the moment. This way, when she is around 20 and giving me all kinds of grief about something stupid, I can prove to her that I once went out of my way to spend quality time with her like regular mommies do.  Give her one of those classic mom lines, “and this is what I get for all my troubles?”

On a somber note: Family Watchdogs is a great website my friend just told me about. It maps which registered sex offenders are in your area, plus great tips and other really useful information for protecting your family. Check it out.

All caught up!  Can’t wait to see what you have been up to!

So glad to see you back! I missed you too! Congratulations on the almost-kicking of the smoking habit! Luckily for me, I never started smoking. However, I have many friends who did and they struggled trying to quit! I hope your playdate with Piper goes well! Can't wait to see the pictures!

PS: As long as they are not too terribly inapropriate, I plan on posting a picture from the costume party! STAY TUNED!

Momish, I'm sorry to hear about your cat. My cat started having health issues around that age, and I don't even want to think how much I spent -- but je was with me for a long time, especially when I was lonely and he was the only one I could count on, so I guess it was worth it!

Have a great weekend!

First of all, congratulations on all your hard work to quit smoking. I hear this is a very very hard thing to do so hooray for you. Just think of me as your very own personal cheerleader!

I had an old cat once. She was just the sweetest fuzzball ever. I ended up doing what you are doing -- I finally quit taking her to get poked and prodded and spent a lot of cuddle time with her.

Can't wait to see your playdate pictures. Have fun with your daughter!

Oh gosh, I know how it is to have a beloved family pet deemed "old" by a vet. I feel for you on that.

Have fun on your Piper playdate. It'll beat the heck out of anything that happens in Gymboree, I can tell you that much.

Herbal cigs? Is that like a clove cigarette? I'm intrigued. I want to know more!

Slackermommy: Yes, clove cigs are one flavor. There are other flavors like cherry and vanilla, or just plain like regular cigs. The catch is no nicotine or tobacco, so it doesn't bring me back to square one. It's still bad for you, but right now I am focusing on the addiction part. Lord help me.
